Monthly meetings held in person at Forrest House (Pollokshields, Glasgow)

Voluntary Position

Forrest House is a long-established charity providing residential care and support for adults with complex physical disabilities and additional care needs. Located in Pollokshields, Glasgow, the service offers a safe, supportive, and homely environment where residents can live with dignity, independence, and the highest standards of care.

Originally established to support adults with cerebral palsy, Forrest House now provides specialist care and support for individuals with a range of conditions requiring a high level of assistance. The service operates from a purpose-built residential setting designed to meet the needs of people with physical and sensory impairments, while maintaining the welcoming and personal atmosphere that has been central to the organisation throughout its history.

Forrest House plays an important role within the local community, supporting residents to live fulfilling lives while providing person-centred care tailored to individual needs. This is an exciting time to join the organisation. With plans underway to increase capacity from nine to twelve residents, alongside ongoing property developments and leadership succession planning, the charity is entering a significant period of change and development.

About the Role of Trustee

As a Trustee, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members and the staff team to support the long-term sustainability, governance, and direction of the charity. While Trustees are responsible for ensuring good governance and oversight, this is currently a particularly hands-on Board, with members actively contributing their skills, experience, and time to support ongoing projects and organisational development.

The Board is playing a key role in overseeing current building and development projects, supporting future planning, and preparing for a forthcoming change in operational leadership. As such, this opportunity may particularly appeal to individuals who enjoy being actively involved and contributing beyond attendance at Board meetings.

Trustees will help ensure Forrest House continues to provide high-quality care and support while remaining financially sustainable and well-positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.

About You

Forrest House welcomes applications from individuals with a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds. Previous Board or Trustee experience is not essential; the organisation is more interested in finding individuals who share its values and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a small charity delivering vital support to people with complex care needs.

Experience in areas such as law, accountancy, fundraising, charity management, HR, business leadership, healthcare, nursing, or social care would be valuable. The Board would also welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of disability or caring responsibilities, or those with a general understanding of the challenges faced by people with additional support needs.

Beyond professional experience, the organisation is looking for individuals who are compassionate, proactive, and willing to contribute actively to the work of the Board. Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach will be important, alongside a genuine commitment to supporting the residents and future development of Forrest House.
