What will you do as a Mass Participation Events Officer
Reporting to the Mass Participation Events Manager, you will support the coordination and delivery of both third-party mass participation events and SAMH-owned events. With mass participation events expected to generate over £300,000 in the upcoming financial year, you will play a key role in helping SAMH achieve ambitious fundraising targets by increasing participation numbers and enhancing supporter engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Planning and Delivery of Mass Participation Events – You will work closely with the Mass Participation Events Manager to coordinate SAMH’s involvement in third-party fundraising events such as marathons, cycling challenges, and obstacle courses, as well as SAMH’s own fundraising events.
Provide High-Quality Supporter Stewardship – A key part of this role is building strong relationships with fundraisers to ensure they have an excellent experience supporting SAMH. You will engage with participants through phone calls, emails, and social media, providing encouragement, fundraising advice, and resources to help them reach their targets.
Collaborate Across Teams to Maximise Fundraising Opportunities – Working within the Income Generation team, you will collaborate with colleagues in Corporate Partnerships, Individual Giving, and Trusts & Foundations to identify opportunities for cross-promotion and upselling.
Represent SAMH at Events and Act as an Ambassador – You will attend key fundraising events across Scotland, representing SAMH and engaging with participants, supporters, and event organisers. Your role will involve delivering speeches, distributing promotional materials, and ensuring SAMH has a strong presence at each event.
What does SAMH need from you?
Experience:
- Experience in assisting with the organisation of large-scale fundraising or public events.
- Experience of working towards and exceeding fundraising or participation targets.
- Experience in working with supporter or customer relationship management systems.
- Understanding of fundraising principles and Fundraising Code of Practice. (Desirable)
Key Skills and Attributes
- Ability to build strong relationships and provide excellent stewardship to fundraisers.
- Strong planning and time-management abilities to juggle multiple events and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A creative and resourceful approach to overcoming challenges and achieving goals.
- A clean driving licence with the flexibility to travel across Scotland, including occasional evenings and weekends.
