About The Archie Foundation
The Archie Foundation operates across the North of Scotland with a mission to transform experiences and outcomes in healthcare and bereavement for local babies, children and their families. Working in partnership with the NHS, the education and social work sectors and with other charities and community organisations, The Archie Foundation supports vital care, comfort, research and family‑centred services aimed at alleviating the stress of illness and enhancing wellbeing at challenging times.

The charity’s work is underpinned by a commitment to dignity, compassion, inclusion and excellence — supporting staff, volunteers, and trustees to deliver high-quality care and meaningful impact at every level.

The Archie Foundation is seeking an ambitious, strategic, and business-minded Chair to lead its Board of Trustees and drive the organisation forward. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced leader who understands that, while Archie is a charity, it operates like a high-performing business.

About the Role of Chair
The Chair provides leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, ensuring the charity fulfils its strategic, governance, and financial responsibilities. The role is more than chairing meetings: you will be hands-on, actively engaging with the Chief Executive, the Board, and stakeholders to shape and deliver the organisation’s vision.

You will bring the ability to inspire, motivate, and align the Board and senior leadership team, combining a strategic mindset with practical commercial acumen and a critical eye. This ensures clarity, rigour, and focus in decision-making, delivering real impact for the communities Archie serves.

The Chair will attend Board and Finance & Governance meetings, participate in strategy reviews, and engage with stakeholders, funders, and key partners. You will also work closely with the Chief Executive and senior staff, providing guidance, oversight, and active support across the charity’s operations.

About You
This opportunity is for a strategic and business-minded leader with strong commercial acumen or experience as a high-performing charity CEO. A solid understanding of financial management, budgeting, and reporting, combined with a critical eye, ensures the organisation remains financially sound and strategically focused.

An inspiring presence, the Chair motivates and aligns the Board, senior leadership, and stakeholders behind a shared vision, while actively engaging beyond formal board meetings. Experience of working with complex organisations—ideally including the public or health sector—enables effective navigation of partnerships with professionalism and confidence. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills allow for constructive challenge, guidance in decision-making, and support in ensuring the charity achieves its ambitions while staying true to its values.

This is an excellent opportunity for a leader who values strategic leadership, collaboration, and making a lasting difference in the lives of children, babies, and families across Scotland. It is preferred that candidates are located within a 50-mile radius of the main charity offices at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
