Voluntary Positions
Scottish Recovery Consortium (SRC) believes that recovery is a reality for those affected/harmed by problematic substance use. SRC supports, represents, and connects people and communities across Scotland by working with recovery in all its forms. We believe there are many pathways to recovery and collaborate with a range of partners across Scotland—from individuals and grassroots, lived-experience recovery communities to government, and from local and national partners to UK organisations. SRC operates across Scotland, offering a range of activities to support the creation, development, growth, and sustainability of recovery communities. We play a critical role in ensuring the voice of lived experience is heard at both local and national levels, and we use this approach to influence policy and practice. We amplify the voices of people and communities by campaigning, influencing, and evidencing the vital role and impact recovery has in reducing stigma, inequalities, and harm caused by problematic substance use.

Following a period of change and the current Trustees reaching the end of their tenure, the Board has recently conducted a strategic review of its governance arrangements. They are now looking to appoint a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and new Board Members.
Chair & Vice Chair:
SRC is seeking an experienced Board Chair to lead the Board, ensuring effective governance that aligns with the charity’s vision and mission. The Chair will lead the Board in a collaborative manner, encouraging open discussion and ensuring all members are engaged in decision-making. They will work closely with the Chief Executive, providing both support and constructive challenge, while representing SRC as an ambassador to promote its mission and work.
The ideal candidate will bring proven experience as a Board Chair, with a strong strategic focus and an inclusive leadership style that encourages participation and engagement. They will also be a confident advocate for SRC, able to champion the organisation's work through various channels.
In addition, SRC is looking for a Vice Chair to assist the Chair in ensuring the Board effectively fulfils its responsibilities and advances the organisation’s mission. The Vice Chair will work closely with the Chair and the Chief Executive, providing leadership and guidance to the Board, as well as supporting strategic decision-making. In the Chair's absence, the Vice Chair will assume their responsibilities, ensuring continuity of governance and engagement within the Board.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Trustee looking to advance their role. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a commitment to SRC's vision, with the ability to create positive relationships between the Board, staff, and volunteers. They will play a key role in supporting the organisation's initiatives and ensuring effective performance management.
Treasurer:
As Treasurer, you will provide support and advice in relation to board and financial matters, maintaining an overview of SRC’s financial health. You will ensure that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are in place and consistently followed. At each Board meeting, you will present reports on the charity’s financial performance and overall stability.
SRC is seeking a highly experienced individual with a strong background in finance, auditing, or accounting. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of financial management and practices, particularly those relevant to voluntary and community organisations. You will be skilled at clearly communicating financial issues, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and advising the Board on financial decision-making.
Board Members:
As a Board Member of the Scottish Recovery Consortium (SRC), you will play a crucial role in overseeing the organisation’s operations, ensuring its activities align with SRC’s vision and mission. Your responsibilities will include helping to shape a clear and effective strategy while offering support and constructive challenge to the executive team, enabling the organisation to grow, thrive, and fulfil its mission.
The ideal candidate will share a strong commitment to SRC’s vision and bring relevant experience in areas such as audit, business management, campaigning, policy, charity and company law, data protection, event management, finance, communications, PR, safeguarding, or business planning.
SRC particularly values the perspectives of individuals with lived experience of alcohol and/or drug recovery, including family members, as these insights can help inform and strengthen the organisation’s work.
While previous board experience is beneficial, it is essential that candidates demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to think creatively and strategically, and the capacity to exercise sound, independent judgement.
Time Commitment:
The SRC Board meets five times a year, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Board meetings are accessible either in person at their Glasgow office or online. However, attendance at the AGM is required in person.
